Blog Reflection #3
Over the past few weeks it has been interesting exploring and discovering new ways to entice and expand the minds of library patrons. It has also been eye opening to learn that a librarian just making themself look more welcoming can help a patron approach them to ask for the help they need. I have been guilty of using wikipedia as my only source of research for a project and I know it's a BAD habit. A good way to help students break this habit is to just get them into the library in the first place. I believe once a student has had the help they need from a librarian to find the material they're looking for, they will realize it's actually an easier, more efficient way to find the information they need. Offering free research workshops at the library that get patrons involved would be an excellent way to help show off what is out there in the way of research material beyond wikipedia.

I agree. It is easy to look at wikipedia but once a person is used to going to the library i think they will find it valueable. I think getting them in the door in the first place is the hard part
ReplyDeleteI agree, The fact that library patrons want to feel comfortable enough to be able to ask for help, a librarian should make themselves look more welcoming. I think this alone will help get more patrons into the library.
ReplyDeleteI also agree. Especially because I am a very shy person so definitely when i go to a library I would like the librarian to look very friendly.
ReplyDeleteI agree library patrons should be comfortable with the librarian because if the librarian looks unapproachable they WILL NOT approach them.
